It’s a valid remediation approach but a more demanding one, because the membrane is working against the direction of water pressure rather than with it.

Dealing with hydrostatic pressure is the central challenge below ground. Strategies range from crystalline waterproofing that penetrates and seals the concrete matrix, to crack injection for active leaks, to drainage systems that relieve the pressure by collecting water and directing it to a sump and pump rather than trying to hold it all back. Often the right solution combines several of these.
